As an Avidog breeder, I learned about Early Scent Introduction (ESI) about 10 years ago. ESI is a program for introducing neonatal puppies to using their noses to smell different things that might be in the environment or things they may be introduced to in dog sports later in life like leaves, grass, bird wings, fruits, vegetables, scentwork odors and more.  Introduce each puppy individually to a different scent early day from day three to day 16 and record the puppies’ reactions. The puppies may try to move towards some scents and turn their heads away from others.
